Pinch Pleat, Rod Pocket, Euro Pleat, and More: Custom Drapery Options for a Stylish Upgrade

Pinch Pleat, Rod Pocket, Euro Pleat, and More: Custom Drapery Options for a Stylish Upgrade

You don’t have to remodel your home to overhaul your interior. Sometimes, all it takes to transform a room is a well-planned window treatment update.

For your new window treatments, the fabric type and color aren’t the only considerations to keep in mind — there are many more styles of custom drapes than you may realize. Here’s a look at some of the top options.

Pinch Pleat Drapes

Pinch-pleated drapes create an elegant, timeless look. They also strike the right balance between luxuriant fullness and a sleek, tailored image.

To create this look, each pleat is pinched in a few inches below where it hooks to the curtain rod. These drapes often do well in more formal interiors, but depending on the fabric, they can also fit in with farmhouse or casual designs.

Euro Pleat Drapes

If you like the general look of pinch pleat drapes but want something just a little more modern, Euro pleats might be the right choice.

These drapes are pinched at the very top instead of a few inches below the curtain rod, which creates a sleek, defined look. Euro pleats combine the minimal with the modern, making them a great choice for a variety of different interiors.

Ripplefold Drapes

Ripplefold drapes are often found in high-end hotel rooms, but they can also be a beautiful addition to your home. These curtains are generally mounted along a track, making them easy to slide back and forth. When closed, they create a striking, rippled appearance.

You can use any kind of fabric to create ripplefold drapes, but thin or sheer materials lend themselves especially well to this design.

Grommet Drapes

Grommet drapes are great for homes with sleek, modern interiors, and they’re also very easy to install. These curtains have metal grommets or eyelets at the top where the curtain rod is threaded through, leaving much of the curtain rod visible. Grommet drapes tend to be easier to slide back and forth than rod pocket drapes and some other types.

Rod Pocket Drapes

Sometimes, the simplest solution is the best one. Rod pocket drapes are casual, cost-effective, and easy to install. Each drape has a pocket for a curtain rod stitched into the top. To install them, you simply need to slide the curtain rod through the pocket.

However, if you anticipate having to regularly open and close your drapes, rod pocket drapes may not be ideal. They aren’t as easy to move as grommet curtains or drapes that attach to rings. Over time, the fabric may become worn from sliding back and forth.
