The World of Bedding: There’s More Than You Think
Few home furnishings matter as much as your bedding. The right bedding can mean the difference between waking up rested and starting the day already tired.
However, your bedding is about more than function — it can be a way to enrich your decor and improve the look of a space. And if you’re looking to give a hotel bedroom a facelift, you have many more creative opportunities than you may realize.
General and Hotel Bedding and Shams
Before you start branching out into the world of decorative bed scarves and other accents, you need the basics — sheets, a comforter, and pillow shams. There’s nothing better than the soft, reassuring warmth of a hotel bed comforter, and our hotel bedding sets are designed to let you take the hotel sleep experience to a whole new level.
Many decorators choose pillow shams that are an exact match to other bedding pieces. However, if you want something a bit different, consider a custom sham with a unique, eye-catching design.
Bed Scarves
A bed scarf (also called a bed runner scarf or simply a bed runner) is a length of fabric that runs horizontally across the bed. It’s a decorative element that can really bring color and texture to a space.
They are especially popular among decorators who use all-white bedding sets because the bed scarf’s color and texture can quickly and easily take the appearance of the room from nondescript to memorable.
For those who want to experiment with the aesthetic of a room or change it often, bed scarves are also a good choice. You can transform the entire space without needing an entirely new set of bedding.
While a bed scarf is primarily used for decoration, it does have a more practical purpose as well. Your bed scarf protects your bedding if guests decide to sit down on a bed, put something on top of it, or stretch out with their shoes on.
Decorative Bed Pillows
Like bed scarves, decorative pillows for beds are a fun, relatively easy way to add some variety to a hotel room.
Pillows of varying sizes that all match your bedding can give the space a unified, monochromatic look. However, if you want to do something a little different, decorative pillows are an easy way to add a pop of color in a mostly neutral color scheme.
Decorative pillows are also useful if you want to make accent furniture pop. With pillows, you can update your entire room in a matter of minutes!
Bed and Box Spring Covers
Many types of mattresses require the use of a box spring. However, that doesn’t mean that the box spring has to be visible to everyone who comes into the room. Box spring covers and bed skirts are an easy, affordable way to give hotel bedroom decor a more streamlined, modern look.
Box spring covers are simply a sheet that covers box springs — much like a fitted sheet is used to cover a mattress. When you match the color of the cover to the sheets, no one will see the box spring unless they’re looking for it.
Would you rather be able to remove your box spring cover without removing the mattress? If so, you might prefer a box spring cover that stretches around the edges of the bed. This kind of cover is often easier to put on and take off.
If you want to prevent too much dust from getting underneath the bed, you might prefer a bed skirt (or “dust ruffle”) to a traditional box spring cover. A bed skirt covers the edges of a box spring, but it also extends downward to touch or nearly touch the floor.
Bed skirts range from simple and straightforward to ruffled and one-of-a-kind, and we can help you create the right one for you.
